Whatever the representatives of the Japanese, American and European car industries say, but the time of their dominance on the world stage is gradually coming to an end. Korean automakers were the first to prove this, and now it's the turn of the Chinese car industry. Of course, even 5 years ago, the attempts of the Chinese did not look threatening, but time passes, and the modern Chinese car industry has made a colossal leap, which is clearly demonstrated by Morris Garages with its updated C-class fastback - MG 5.
Morris Garages is a well-known car manufacturer from Britain, which in 2007 was acquired by the largest Chinese auto corporation SAIC. The newly formed enterprise immediately took up the company's lineup, presenting several new products to the world community, among which was the new MG 5. The car bribed with a simple and frankly sporty appearance, a rich list of equipment, good dynamic characteristics and, of course, an affordable price. And relatively recently, Morris Garages officially presented the updated MG 5, which received a number of external and internal improvements, which we will talk about later.
Exterior MG 5
The updated MG 5 is a stylish, modern and dynamic car, when you look at which you want to be behind the wheel faster and find out how much its driving qualities match its external appearance. In comparison with its predecessor, the car received updated head optics, a new front bumper and modified foglights.
In place there is a stylish embossed hood and a narrow false radiator grille, in the center of which there is a large “MG” emblem.
The car's profile has well-defined proportions, and attention is drawn to the original stampings along the body and stylish alloy wheels (R15-16 options are available). In general, the profile of the machine has not undergone any noticeable changes, which cannot be said about the completely redesigned feed. Here there was a new rear bumper and spectacular design marker lights, evoking a resemblance to the rear dimensions of the Honda Civic hatchback, as well as a massive, sporty styled pseudo diffuser.
The external dimensions of the novelty are:

The ground clearance of the updated MG 5 is 118 mm, which is not much, given the peculiarities of domestic roads. Potential buyers can choose from five body colors: Metal Gray, Windsor White, Solid Red, Black Knight and Silver Metallic.
Interior MG 5
The interior of the car has also undergone some changes. In particular, the finishing materials have been improved, as well as the list of standard and optional equipment has been expanded, designed to make the stay in the cabin more comfortable and enjoyable.
The front panel architecture has not changed and still looks stylish and modern. In front of the driver is a comfortable three-spoke steering wheel that allows you to control the audio system, as well as a well-read instrument panel, represented by two large wells and a small LCD display, which displays basic information about the current state of the car. In the central part of the dashboard, as before, there is a spectacular-looking multimedia information center, represented by a 7-inch display and audio control buttons located under it. Below that is the neat climate control unit.
The front seats have received a large number of manual adjustments (in the maximum configuration are electric), and also have a well-felt lateral support, so you can safely go on long trips by car.
The second row of seats is spacious enough and accommodates three passengers, while the third passenger may be somewhat uncomfortable, since the rear sofa is profiled for two passengers.
Depending on the configuration, the seats can be finished with high-quality fabric or leather upholstery.
The boot capacity is about 430 liters, but it can be increased by lowering the rear seats. There is a full-fledged spare wheel and a small repair kit in the boot underground. The interior of the car pleases with good noise insulation, so that even when driving 100 km / h, the passengers' snakes are not annoyed by the aerodynamic and rolling sounds of the tires.
The quality of the materials and the fit of the elements are not satisfactory, but let's face it, it is inferior to most German and even Korean automakers. However, it is difficult to consider this a significant drawback, since the overall impression of the cabin is extremely positive.
Specifications MG 5
The survivor MG 5 is offered with two powertrains to choose from:
- 1.5-liter gasoline engine developing 106 "horses". Such an engine can work in tandem with a 4-speed automatic transmission, which has the ability to manually shift gears. Acceleration from 0 to 100 with such a motor takes 12.5 seconds, and the maximum possible speed is 170 km / h. Such sluggish dynamics is explained by high efficiency - fuel consumption in combined mode varies within 5.8-6.2 l / 100 km.
- 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 129 hp Unlike the "younger" modification, this motor is aggregated with a more advanced 6-speed automatic transmission. As before, the car is based on the Roewe 350 platform, which assumes the presence of an independent suspension of the MacPherson type at the front and a dependent beam at the rear. It is worth noting that the car drives and drives well. The suspension is tuned for a comfortable ride, which will appeal to most potential buyers, but if it hits large holes, the suspension can easily hit the bump stop.
The steering is represented by a hydraulic booster with an electronically controlled unit, and disc brakes, which have received a ventilation system in front, are responsible for deceleration.
Security
In the production of the car, MG engineers used new, stronger and lighter grades of steel, which made it possible to increase the stability of the body in both side and frontal impacts. The car can be safely recommended for family use, since even in basic equipment it offers a large number of electronic security systems that are not available to competitors in the same price range.
